This Town Was Paradise, Then Everyone Started Working From Home
- Topic Sentences: A strong topic sentence introduces the main idea of the paragraph, clearly stating what the paragraph will be about.
- Body Paragraph Transitions: Transitions help connect ideas, ensuring the writing flows logically.
- Conclusion Transitions: Conclusion should restate the main point and tie everything together while guiding the reader to a final thought.
- Different types of transition words and phrases:
- For Adding Information: furthermore, additionally, also
- For Contrast: however, on the other hand, nevertheless
- For Example: for instance, for example, such as
- For Cause and Effect: therefore, as a result, consequently
- For Summarizing: in conclusion, overall, to sum up
- Students will use a transition word/phrase to smoothly conclude their paragraph, and also link back to the central idea of their essay.

Group work. Split the class into groups of max 2-3. Have groups complete the following questions. All names on 1 piece of paper to hand in with answers. Use the writing techniques we learned about last day e.g. Topic sentences, transition words, examples, & concluding statements.
Group Work Questions: Paragraph Responses. PICK ONE!
1. Materialism - What is it? & How does materialism (excess stuff) affect our lives? future careers? life goals?
2. Minimalism - What is it? What are the benefits OR what are the shortfalls? (negatives?)
Class Discussion re: Answers to above questions once all groups have completed their work. 20 min group work time allocation.
